Angelo Romagnoli

Angelo Romagnoli is an Italian actor, pedagogue, and researcher with three decades of
international practice in theatre, opera, and contemporary classical music. His
collaborations include significant work with Venezuelan playwright Rodolfo Santana and
Polish theatre icon Jerzy Stuhr. He portrayed Shylock in an acclaimed production of
William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, also providing its Italian translation. In
2024, Angelo joined the French-Italian ensemble Demens Théâtre, directed by Elena
Borgogni.
His career extends into the realm of opera and contemporary music, performing works by
Richard Strauss, Igor Stravinsky, Gavin Bryars and contemporary composers Paweł
Łukaszewski and Nicola Sani. His performances have featured at Opera Wrocławska,
Fondazione Haydn di Trento e Bolzano, Accademia Chigiana in Siena, and broadcasts on
Radio Rai and TVP Kultura.
Academically, Angelo holds a PhD from the University of Kent, having also studied
Philosophy at the Australian National University, with his dissertation developing a
pioneering spatial framework for actor training, integrating insights from Samuel Beckett,
Thierry Salmon, early 20th-century psychopathology, and contemporary neuroscience. His
academic journey includes a Laurea cum laude in Philosophy and an MBA/M.Sc in
Economics from the University of Siena (Italy).
Angelo’s influential teaching and research roles include coordinating European projects
like “Playing Identities” and co-directing Erasmus+ initiatives aimed at unifying European
performer training curricula. Currently collaborating with the BACH Center at the University
of Chieti-Pescara, he actively contributes to research projects critically reassessing actor
education across Europe. Angelo’s ongoing work is dedicated to innovatively blending
traditional actor training methods with phenomenology and neuroscience, fostering new
paradigms for 21st-century performer development.
