Apocalyptica: The Last Battle of Marathon — Workshops 2026

In 2026, The Makings of the Actor implements a comprehensive series of six workshops, forming the core artistic and educational process of the project Apocalyptica: The Last Battle of Marathon.
The workshops function as a unified ecosystem, where each instructor contributes a distinct methodology that feeds into the final artistic outcome: The Performance.
1. David Glass — Devising & World‑Building
As stated in the document:

David Glass uses the landscape of Marathon as both laboratory and narrative core. Through the Alchemy of the Extraordinary method, participants create the story‑world of Apocalyptica, developing short films, environmental actions, and live performance connected to the natural environment.
2. Balthazar Hertel — Camera as Performer
Hertel focuses on the relationship between camera–body–space.The camera is approached as a dramaturgical character. Participants explore the physical narrative language of the camera, wide framing, and the dialogue between cinema and performance.
3. Kasper Ravnhøj — Physical Risk & Ensemble Movement
Ravnhøj combines physical risk, improvisation, partner work, and ensemble movement. Emphasis is placed on flow, flexibility, and the dynamic qualities required for battle scenes and large‑scale action.
4. Dr. Kiki Selioni — Laban–Aristotle Methodology
Kiki Selioni presents a contemporary method combining Laban Movement Analysis with Aristotelian philosophy of action and entelechy. Participants work with Weight–Space–Time–Flow, activation of body memory, rhythmic structures, and physical composition for ensemble and combat.
5. Barbara Duka — Body Memory & Pre‑Text Acting
Duka focuses on body memory before text. Voice and body operate prior to consciousness and emotion. The method enhances sensory awareness, vocal freedom, and organic stage presence.
6. Morwenna Rowe — Chorus Voice & Outdoor Resonance
Morwenna Rowe works with the voice as collective energy. Participants explore ensemble breathing, spatial resonance, and vocal patterns in the outdoor environment of Marathon.
The workshop culminates in the creation of a chorus voice for large‑scale scenes.
Collective Creation of the Final Artistic Work
The final artistic product of Apocalyptica is a collective creation by all instructors and participants. The performance, film material, and vocal/physical compositions emerge from:

ensemble movement
chorus voice
the fusion of theatre–cinema–voice
collaborative research across all instructors
No individual works are produced; the outcome is a unified collective creation.

The result is presented as a collective artistic work.
Participation & Fees
Workshops: 600 euros (50% discount for students & unemployed)
Attendance (in person & online): 500 euros
Participation in the final performance is not required for workshop attendance.
Certificate of attendance will be provided.

Barbara Dukas — Biography (English Translation)
Barbara Dukas is a theatre director. She served as Artistic Director of the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Corfu (DI.PE.THE. Corfu) from 2018 to 2024. She is a PhD candidate at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki – Department of Film, with the dissertation topic: “Digital Media: A New Persona for the Actor of the 21st Century.” She has taught in schools and workshops in Greece and abroad, including Directing for the Performing Arts, Ancient Tragedy, Acting, and Improvisation. Since 2009, she has directed the Educational Program and Pitching Lab of the Drama International Short Film Festival.
She has developed Cultural Management and Performing Arts Management programs within European frameworks, as well as strategies for integrating cultural actions into local communities. In 1990, she founded the Selanna Theatre Company, with founding members including L. Anagnostaki, G. Cheimonas, Z. Dizikiriki, D. Lagios, among others. She has published the poetry collection “Autologa Moschevmata” (Thucydides, 1984).
Forthcoming publications include her book “Founding a World — Basic Lessons in Directing” (Ochto Editions) and the poetry collection “A.C.T.”, a satirical series inspired by the pandemic era.
